Tower of Dawn – a book review

“Know that wherever the road takes you, however dark, you will be alright.”

Tower of Dawn ~ Sarah J. Maas

Benjamin’s Rating – 4/5

It’s been a while since I’ve finished a book. I’ve been reading this spin off book for at least nine to ten months. So, many women have literally fallen pregnant and given birth before I finished this novel. (I’m slightly embarrassed).

It’s certainly the longest period of time it has taken me to read a book, but by no means did I lose the plot or forget details. And – before you judge too harshly – the book is a 650 paged brick of paper. But the writing held with me, the plot ever-present in my mind.

It’s titled ‘Tower of Dawn’, and if you don’t know the book, the author is Sarah J. Maas – my die-hard, absolute favorite writer that exists on earth. This book is a spin off novel of a successful fantasy series, but Maas said the content was far too crucial to the story-line to dismiss the novel as a whole and wait for the final book of the series to come out.

I followed this series like the biggest nerd ever since the third novel came out (and religiously read the other fantasy series that Maas has published during this period), and this spin off has actually be out since 2017 (now you can judge me harshly – I’m judging myself, too).

But it gets worse – the final novel of the epic and beautiful series has been out for almost a year, and I, being caught up in this spin off for months, have not read the final book as a result. But enough about my awful reading habits – let me tell you about this fantastic novel.

Obviously, I recommend this book for anyone that enjoys a good fantasy novel with such complex characters and relationships that your heart aches about every 50 pages. For those of you who know nothing of this series (the Throne of Glass series), reading the first five novels is kind of crucial – which I also highly recommend.

This review is more so for those who maybe have read the series, but decided to skip out on the spin off – as I know many people did from old friends and Instagram. I highly recommend picking this brick of novel up sometime if you get the chance.

I think I’ve said all I can about this book without spoiling anything about the accompanying series honestly, and I hope it’s enough to get you slightly intrigued about Sarah J. Maas and her writing.
