Mock Village Roadshow Media Release

VILLAGE ROADSHOW MOVIE WILL STAR LEONARDO DICAPRIO

Village Roadshow’s CEO Oscar Wilde has signed a filming contract with famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio that will be a chilling drama account of the end of the world due to climate change, titled “Scorcher”.

The production is expected to take a year in Queensland, commencing in January of 2020 and costing $100 million Australian dollars, across multiple locations on the South East coast including Mt Tamborine and North Stradbroke Island.

Mr Wilde will be the director, writer and producer of “Scorcher”, with the production being one of the largest ever undertaken by Village Roadshow.

“It is a great boost for the film industry on the coast,” Mr Wilde says, “I am so thrilled to have Leo giving us such a vote of confidence in our production facilities.”

Leonardo DiCaprio is excited to film the emotionally engaging production, that’s full of surprises and action with his co-star from the Titanic, Kate Winslet.

“I chose Queensland because it is a beautiful environment prime for disaster – just look at those high rises right on the beach,” Mr DiCaprio says, “sitting ducks for rising sea levels and cyclones.”

“Scorcher” follows on from Leonardo’s 2016 documentary “Before the Flood”, which examined global warming.

“Climate change is real, it is happening right now and is the most urgent threat facing our entire species,” Mr DiCaprio says, “we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

Much of the research for the production of Scorcher has come from the Institute of Climate Change at Griffith University.

One scene in particular, on a sealed off section of Surfers Paradise beach, will feature a computer-generated wall of water hitting the high rises.

The film will be great for the community, with more than 200 jobs provided for the production by Paramount, as well as university students being asked to be extras for $500 a day during the mid-year academic break for the wall of water scene.
