Tips to Getting your Writing Out There

For those who are serious writers, or in some part want to be serious writers, writing isn’t always about the heart and soul you put into a piece. Of course, there will always be those pieces that are too close to home that you don’t want – or aren’t ready – to share with anyone. But this blog post is for those stories that are just a bit of fun; that on a whim you want to publish somewhere, anywhere.

So, here’s a few quick tips on how to go about getting your writing out there:

1. Just write!

Just write. Find something that holds your interest; relate a story to a hobby or passion, or an environment that’s similar to yours. Throw yourself in a storyline. Relating yourself or your environment to a story makes it much easier to write with very little prior research or planning. It gives you the ability to dive straight in and just write. Writing something like this prolifically gives you loads of content to play with. Turn it into a routine – write everything morning, or before you go to bed instead of reading a book (dare I say).

2. Audience is key!

Finding a platform suitable to your writing is key to receiving recognition and feedback. For example, if you write light-hearted novellas, Wattpad might be the perfect platform to put something out there. If you have some more short pieces or poems and you’re feeling up to it, submit some pieces to journals – they’re a great way to build your portfolio. Not to mention, most offer prize money!

3. Consistency!

No matter what you write, being consistent in what you write and what you put out there is essential. Everyone says you get better at writing by reading, and, well, writing more gives you the same growth, if not more.
